***The Princess and the Stone***
A fair Princess wandered to the common, her head bowed, toes kicking small stones, searching for the object to fill her soul, her dreams, her destiny, to love, to cherish...to command her heart.
She looked up to a birdsong coming from the wall surrounding the grounds, and as her eyes roved, they beheld a Noble Boulder! A daunting spanse of Rock...she gasped with fascination at it's grace, it's magnatism, it's unquestionable masculinity. She approached this rock, desire swelling in her heart...tentative fingertips reached out to know this paragon. Her eyes widened, her lips surrendered restraint as she bent to him. To feel, to taste...to know completely this virtue of a this stone, became her life's burning desire.
At the first heat of her touch, the stone withdrew. Then he spoke. "Princess, what would you have of me?" he asked. She drew back in awe, her hand to her mouth. "Oh!..why, I would have you for my OWN!!!..forever!!!! she cried. "Ah", he sighed, "Alas, I am my own stone now, firmly lodged here to complete my days in the place I love most." "But", cried the Princess, "I love you with my entire being, and I will forever share my soul with you.I've searched my life long for this love I've found in you.The years of my youth have been nothing but a waste in not having and knowing you! You fill me with a yearning to live and behold you each day for the rest of my life. To put my arms around your greatness, to inhale your aroma to my core. I will honor you above all else in my life. I will give up my family and all my possessions to be with you alone, if that should be your desire."
The man stone sighed a great and deep sigh, as much as a stone could, and thought before he spoke. "I have lived too much of my life in search of my greatness. I've sought freedom and adventure, and found both through my courage and perserverence. I've held back waterfalls and I've been a portion of a mighty fortress upholding the walls of my Lord's castle from the ocean. I've protected men in battle. I've travelled over the continents and seen all manner of suffering and joy! Sweet fragrant flowers have grown round me, teaching me the beauty in life. I mourned when they left me and rejoiced in their blossoming anew! Now, in this place, I've found a peace I never thought could exist for me again. The birds sing to me each morning at the opening of my day. The gentle warm breezes waft delightful fragrances all around me and the sun warms this weary vagabond when he thought he would earn no more warmth. I am content and feel no need to seek or have more than what has become dear to me now.
"But stone", cried the Princess, "You could have all you now feel at home with and ME!!! I would bring you my stories and my loving smile. my laughter, my shawl with the hearts I embroidered myself, which I would wrap in in. I'd bring essences I've gathered with my own hands to heighten your senses. I'd play music I myself composed on the flute my mother gave me. I'd bring flowers to plant round you from the valley where I was born and birds from my garden to sing to us both. I bring my heart which I give freely to you for the rest of my life for you to know the breadth of my devotion. Without you, I shall perish...Please have me! What have you to gain in not accepting my love? Is there another?"
The man stone paused, then replied,"There is another who I believe has won me.She is my Earth Maiden.I was a lost soul, thinking there could be no tranquility for me...until I found the Earth Maiden. She fills me when I feel empty. She supports me and gives me life." "But where is she now?asked the Princess. "I can't see her and I am here!"
"Look around you. She is everywhere, the trees, the flowers, the stream, the blue sky."he answered. "But how can Earth touch you as I can? She can't, she can't! I must have you to hold, to touch..to love ME!!!! You'll see! I'll come every day and sing and read to you. I'll bring my most loved possessions and lay them upon you. I will warm you with my heart and with my music and my laughter. Everyday, everyday! I shall come and be one with you. You'll see that you will love me as I love you. Everyday you will see!" And the stone thought on this and decided he would see what each day would bring and be open and accepting of what the Princess offered. Loneliness was still with himin his contentment and what harm was there in listening to this beautiful girl who loved him so.
"I'm going to gather a few things and return this very day" smiled the Princess. The boulder eased himself into the warm sun and allowed the birdsong to take away all his thoughts. The Princess returned quite quickly and spread her beautifuly embroidered shawl over the Great Manstone. The hearts were exquisitely delicate and each a Perfect heart, united by satinny ribbons in the palest green. The long fringe trailed over his sides as lightly as the tendrils of the Princess's hair on her shoulders. She placed a tiny gold cup filled with herbs and flowers she'd collected on top of the shawl. Then she began to sing in the most perfect high soprano voice he'd ever heard. Finer pitch than the most beloved song bird, music for the heavens! So fine was her voice, he wept and trembled.
She saw his response and beamed brightly for the wresting of his heart from its seclusion. He was lost to her then...she became the soul object of his every desire!! |
